October 16 CAPA Committee Reports


Executive Committee

Due to a scheduled University holiday on Friday, March 19, 2010, the monthly CAPA meeting has been rescheduled for Friday, March 26, 2010.

President Bruininks will be joining CAPA on November 20, 2009.


Benefits and Compensation Committee

The B&C committee met on October 7. Nan Wilhelmson distributed a list of administrative policies under review and the review schedule. One of the policies under review is the academic vacation for faculty and P&A employees policy. Mary Luther gave a presentation on the compensation overview. Joe Kelly discussed a new policy on HR implications of pandemic influenza and draft Q&A on 27 pay periods in FY2011. Other business for the committee included the 2009 personal holiday for academic employees and its listing on the web. The next meeting in November 4.


Communications Committee

--CAPA's facebook page is live. Facebook users who are interested can "fan" CAPA.
--We are working on the next issue of P&A Staff News which will be mailed the week of Oct. 26th. PD&R contibuted an article, and Drew Swain is working on another spotlight interview.
--Nan Wilhelmson agreed to insert into the P&A appointment letter information about CAPA. We are still working on the text to send to Nan for insertion.
--We are actively working to update the commiittee pages on the CAPA Website. So far the R&G committee has submitted their edits (thanks Bill and Neil!)


Professional Development and Recognition Committee

The PD&R committee met on September 24th. PD&R will undertake several projects this year. First, the committee will sponsor monthly brown bag lunches, each featuring a speaker followed by time for networking. The first brown bag is scheduled for Nov. 10th at 12:00 in Walter 101. Stacy Doepner-Hove from OHR will be the speaker. Second, the committee will revise the P&A survey that was done a few years ago. Third, the Outstanding Unit Award criteria will be revised with a focus on P&A staff's involvement in leadership and governance within their units. Finally, PR&R will advocate on behalf of the Proposal for University Support of P&A Affairs. Specifics on this will be determined in the future.
